Tom Landry is the face of the Dallas Cowboys if you ask me.
Who can forget that sonic look on his face, play sheet rolled up in his hands. And the only thing to protect him from the climate ,the cheers and jeers was his Fedora. He stood proudly under it thru the great wins and the terrible losses for so many years.
Only to crack into one of the Biggest smiles when he was raised onto the shoulders of his players(one of them being Bob Lily the first draft pick in team history), winning the first Super Bowl in club history after years of hearing the label Brides maids, can't win the big one.
So, it sounds like a great idea to keep his legacy alive.Just like the hole in the roof. you can't find deeper tradition then this in the NFL.:twocents:

It is amazing how long he coached for the Cowboys. When you think of the Cowboys in history you think of Tom Landry and all the ideas he brought to the playing field. I am glad to know there is a statue honoring his legacy. I am sure they will transfer it to the new stadium. I think the naming is a good idea. But, then how do you honor Tex another man that had a never ending passion for the Cowboys. I am curious to see, if it happens?

Definitely agree with you on this one! I wonder where the Landry statue to the front of the current stadium will end up at the new stadium.

Many Old Cowboy fans will tell you the team was built by Tom Landry, and his football mind, dedication skills, and sheer Genius was probably the main reason the Cowboys became "America's Team". Landry may be the greatest NFL coach of all time!
That being said there is absolutely, positively, NO WAY the new stadium would be named after Tom Landry. The reason is twofold.... 1) Money- naming rights will be in the millions, no way a sharp business person lets that go by, and Jones is a sharp business person. The only possible hope would be for some large corporation to pay millions to name it "Tom Landry Stadium", but that is very unrealistic.
2) Ego.... If the Stadium would be named after anybody wouldn't it be the person who dragged the Cowboys up from near finantial ruin to a viable organization that is economically strong, has won 3 superbowls, and has set the organization on a future path to success? This being said, Ego won't win over money... My guess is some sort of neutral name just like "Texas Staduim". I believe the Pick Taco offered million to Arizona for naming rights and the University of Phoenix was able to cough up a few million, to get it's name on the stadium.
With all the Big Texas Businesses, I expect the bidding to be quite high, and I suspect the decision has already been made. Jerry & Co. plans way to well to not have this covered. Everyone can petition all they want... No way it will be named after Landry........ sorry- don't waste your time... They wouldn't even name Texas Stadium after him.... I'm guessing they have plans to name a wall or a section or something to make the fans happy.

Wow, now how much respect would the public have if they bought the naming rights to the stadium, and still named it Landry stadium. I could really do business with someone like that. I would go out of my way to promote them every where. Get my point, Hooters?
